A Dream Deferred

For as long as I've known of its existance, I've wanted to get this letterbox.

So I made a road trip up through Palmdale/Lancaster, getting some of the last few LbNA boxes in LA County that I didn't have, working my way up through Mojave and beyond to Red Rock Canyon.

Having successfully searched for everything I'd planned out for the day, but surprisingly having a few more hours of daylight, I decided to press on to this Holy Grail, noting that another box had been added to the location.

Although some might think the tunnel was going to be the hard part, the truth was that the road to get to it was the issue for my Toyota Corolla. A couple miles in, the sand became too loose and I got stuck. It took a good 20 minutes of digging by hand and bracing my tires with rocks to back up 50 feet onto more solid ground so that I could retreat in shame. Perhaps on a future trip I'll need to add a 10 mile round-trip hike to this excursion.

With my dream deferred, I made new plans and nabbed a couple boxes in Ridgecrest, which took me past the surprising site of an unusual sculpture park:

On the return trip home, I stopped in a cemetery in the dark to get a new box, officially filling my fifth logbook.
